In recent weeks the Habira Group has announced that is forming a new REIT which will be investing in commercial real estate all over Israel.
The Habira Group, which was formed in 2010 by Mark Goldfarb, initially invested in residential apartments for individuals and small groups of investors. Now however, together with Mark Eichenberg and Mark Eichler (“the three Marks”) Mark Goldfarb is moving on to the big leagues and is forming a REIT. This will be the third such REIT in Israel.
A REIT is a real estate investment trust. It gives small investors the chance to add real estate to their investment portfolios. The REIT will be publicly traded on the Tel Aviv Stock Exchange and will invest in commercial income producing properties.
In order to fall into the requirements of the Ministry of Finance for the tax exemptions associated with an investment trust, the REIT must adhere to strict rules set out by the law and the Stock Exchange.
For someone who doesn’t have enough money to purchase an apartment or a piece of commercial property on his own, a REIT can allow him to own a little piece of Israel and earn a profit as well.
